{"id":706,"date":"2014-11-25T09:21:17","date_gmt":"2014-11-25T09:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/?p=706"},"modified":"2016-01-13T13:18:06","modified_gmt":"2016-01-13T00:18:06","slug":"paper-craft-christmas-decor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/paper-craft-christmas-decor\/","title":{"rendered":"Paper Craft Christmas Decor"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>12 Days of Christmas 2014 &#8211; Day 9<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Recently I went to Spotlight and purchased one of those jumbo pads of 12 x12 Christmas Scrapbook paper.\u00a0 My plan was to see how many Christmas decorations I could make using just that pad.\u00a0 After try all sorts of paper craft ideas I settled on three favourites that I would like to share with you as our 9th Christmas idea for 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #999999; text-decoration: underline;\">1.\u00a0 The Paper Chain<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-708 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Paper-Chain-1024x746.jpg\" alt=\"Paper Chain\" width=\"770\" height=\"560\" \/>It&#8217;s an oldie but a goodie.\u00a0 In fact\u00a0I\u00a0have vague memories of making these in primary school.\u00a0 Super simple to make and a great craft to do with the kids.\u00a0 For those who never had the opportunity of making them as a child, all you need to do is cut a\u00a0bunch of strips of paper all the same size,\u00a0take one strip and make it into a\u00a0ring\u00a0shape\u00a0then secure it with a couple of staples. Then thread a second\u00a0strip though the first as you make that\u00a0one into a ring and then secure it with\u00a0a couple of staples.\u00a0 Keep repeating the process until you are\u00a0happy with the length\u00a0of your chain.\u00a0\u00a0If your children are a little older and can handle a stapler on their own you could even make it into a competition to see who can make the longest chain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #999999; text-decoration: underline;\">2. Stitched Paper Garland<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Stitched-Garland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-711\" src=\"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Stitched-Garland-1024x326.jpg\" alt=\"Stitched Garland\" width=\"770\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These days the sewing machine can be used for more than just fabric.\u00a0 I love these stitched paper garlands.\u00a0 They can be used in a variety of ways too.\u00a0 You can hang them from the ceiling or on your Christmas tree, use it in your gift wrapping, they can even be used as an embellishment on your scrapbook pages.\u00a0 While I wouldn&#8217;t\u00a0recommend this as one for the kids to make on their own, it is still rather simple.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll need a sewing machine, thread, paper and a shape punch (as you can see, I chose to use a circle punch).\u00a0 First punch out heaps of shapes from your paper.\u00a0\u00a0If your paper is white on one side and patterned on the other and you\u00a0want to make your garland double sided you&#8217;ll need twice as many shapes.\u00a0Thread up the sewing machine and begin sewing straight through each shape.\u00a0 If you are going for the double sided option you&#8217;ll need to put two shapes back to back before sewing them.\u00a0 I counted about 5-6 stitches before putting the next shape\u00a0into the machine to create the gap.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #999999; text-decoration: underline;\">3.\u00a0 The Paper Rosette<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Paper-Rosette.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-712\" src=\"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Paper-Rosette-1024x464.jpg\" alt=\"Paper Rosette\" width=\"770\" height=\"348\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are my absolute favourite.\u00a0 They are the most difficult to make but they look amazing when arranged together on a wall or around a doorway.\u00a0 If you are going to attempt these I highly recommend buying a Scoring Board as they making the folding process so much quicker.\u00a0 You can buy these through a <a title=\"Close To My Heart\" href=\"http:\/\/www.closetomyheart.com.au\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Close to My Heart Consultant <\/a>or at most Spotlight stores.\u00a0 What I thought looked extra awesome\u00a0was layering a couple of different sizes together and inserting a paper or plastic doily in between to make a more complex rosette.\u00a0 I found this\u00a0excellent tutorial\u00a0on You Tube that taught me all I needed to know about making these fabulous rosette decorations.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VLm5BrPOc0A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I hope this inspires you for your Christmas d\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-663 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.asyouwish.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Sign-off-300x118.png\" alt=\"Sign off\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>12 Days of Christmas 2014 &#8211;
