A Super Fab Formula for Awesome Kid’s Parties

A Super Fab Formula for Awesome Kid's Parties

To be absolutely honest there are no hard and fast rules on how to throw parties for Kids. But if you find yourself staring down the barrel of a potential party for one of your beloved kiddies, and the whole task seems way too overwhelming – then this little formula could be just what you need.

#1 Invitations:

It’s always a great idea to send out physical invitations for your party. Whether you hand them out or send them in the post, physical invitations that reflect the theme of your party are far more likely to grab people’s attention, than those sent via text, email or Facebook. They also begin to create an anticipation for the special day, which means people are far more likely to come.

#2 The Food
Kids Space Rocket Party Food

Party food for a Space Rocket theme.

When it comes to the menu for a kids party I always start with 3 savoury food options, 3 sweet food options, a mini candy buffet (usually consisting of 3 types of candy that somehow connect to the theme), and drink. I also tend to try and make sure that at least a couple of the food options are healthy – just for balance. If you wish to add more, go for it, I just find this is a great starting point. Oh and if you value your sanity at all, don’t serve drinks with red colouring (i.e. raspberry fizzy drink) it can make some kids go absolutely crazy – let’s just say I have learnt the hard way.

#3 The Entertainment
The Lego Block Drop Game

One of the games from our Lego party.

I’m a huge fan of old school party games and creative activities, so I usually tend to have about 3 of these. Sometimes it is 2 games and 1 activity, other times it is 2 activities and 1 game. I think it often depends on the age of the children – for example a couple of parties that I have done for children under 3, I have chosen to do activities only. Of course if you have the budget you can always hire a bouncy castle and face-painter too.

#4 Decorations
Snow White Party Decorations

All decorated and ready to go.

When decorating for a kids party I always start with two main areas – the food table and the guests’ table. If you get those looking fabulous you’ll definitely get ‘Oooos and aahhs’ as guests arrive. Once again there is always room to go a little further if you want too – so that is when I look for areas around the party space that just lend themselves to being decorated. These areas can include places like entrance ways and party games & activity stations.

#5 The Cake

The birthday cake from our Red Tractor party.

What’s a birthday party without cake right? Whether you make it yourself or buy one, the right choice can also become a great decorative centrepiece for your food table (Mmmmm, decorations that taste good). Not to mention that important moment when everyone gathers around to sing ‘Happy Birthday’.

So there you have it one super fab formula for awesome kid’s parties. 1+2+3+4+5 = totally achievable!
