Vintage Country Wedding On the Thames Coast

A January Wedding in Te Mata, Coromandel, New Zealand – Featured Submission by Anonymous

I’m very excited to share with you our first featured submission. I had the privilege of sitting down with this bride during the early stages of her planning to hear her initial thoughts for their wedding and give her a few pointers for along the way. From there on she took the lead and together with her family and friends they created a stunning vintage, country wedding.

I am totally smitten by all the thoughtful details this Bride and Groom added to their wedding day:

  • The floral arrangements and the fact that all the flowers came from her families property.
  • The hanging floral arrangements in recycled Bundaberg ginger beer bottles.
  • The picnic style lunch reception with individual lunch boxes for the guests.
  • The signage for the guests
  • The beautiful location at Te Mata Lodge
  • And I just love the way their wedding reflected their personalities.

This is what the Bride had to say about their special day – We so enjoyed our wedding day and the lead up to it! The day before I spent a few hours with my younger sister, mum and florist collecting flowers and foliage from the property and roadside and then filling over approx. 100+ jars and Bundaberg bottles with little posies.
The day itself was so relaxing. We had a beautiful and unique ceremony with 3 celebrants who each are significant figures in our lives. Our entry song was ‘We brought a Zoo’ by Jonsi and our exit song was ‘No Matter Where You Are’ by US the duo.
We had a lovely picnic lunch – each table had a different type of sandwich. Filled ciabatta buns (falafel/beef/chicken/gluten free) + caramelised onion and feta quiche + the BEST caramel slice ever! All in cute individual lunch boxes. It was very casual – people could sit where they pleased whether on chairs, at a table or on a picnic rug.
During lunch we watched video messages from those who weren’t able to make it to the day – we both find it rather boring hearing the bestman standing reading emails. So we decided to get people to be a bit creative and send us video messages.
Bridal party photos were taken on the property and then we went off into Thames with just the photographer. We were able to visit my Nanna in the private hospital and then skype some relatives too. After which we took a few photos in the Thames township.
Dinner was under the marquee… no seating plan, just immediate family, a relaxed dinner with very touching and meaningful speeches.
